Ruby Rose smashed people’s ideas of gender at the EMA Awards
Gender fluid Orange is the New Black heartthrob Ruby Rose took to the stage at the EMAs last night, and delivered an awesome message of inclusiveness.
Hosting the MTV’s Europe Music Awards last night, the star welcomed “ladies and gentlemen, and everyone in-between” to the event.
The phrase won support from fans on the internet.
Ruby Rose debuted on the third season of the Netflix prison drama as Stella, a tattooed Australian who drove a wedge between prison couple Piper and Alex.
However, the genderfluid star attracted a lot of attention online – with both gay men and straight women alike joking that the star was making them question their sexuality.
Ruby Rose released a video last year exploring her perception of non-traditional gender identities.
The star wrote and produced a 5 minute video set to Butterfly Boucher’s ‘It Pulls Me Under’, which sees her transition from female to male.
She said at the time: “It’s weird, some of the androgynous photos I have taken lately really make me wonder what I’d have looked like if I did a FTM transition like I wanted to when I was younger.
“I am a woman, but I would have been just as comfortable as a boy. I know a lot of people don’t understand that, but I know a few of you do.”
