Watch: Trans guy celebrates his first beard hairs in new documentary
It might not be a beard yet… but it’s nearly there!
This clip from upcoming documentary ‘Real Boy’ sees 22-year-old lad Bennett Wallace documenting his transition.
It sees Bennett getting a haircut from hairdresser and mentor Joe Stevens – and celebrating his first beard hairs after starting taking male hormones.
The part-crowdfunded documentary, which has raised nearly $50,000 via Kickstarter, focusses on the teen finding his voice – as a musician, a friend, a son, and a man.
Director Shaleece Haas explained: “I am so proud of this project… I’ve spent the past three and a half years with Bennett and [mother] Suzie and [mentor] Joe, as their lives have changed and relationships evolved.
“It’s important that we show the world that these stories matter. This is not just a story about being trans. It’s a story about the meaning of family – the one we’re given and the one we choose.
“I’m making this film for anyone who’s ever been a teenager, anyone who’s ever raised a teenager, anyone who’s ever had their life changed by a mentor, anyone who’s ever wanted to make their mark on the world.”
