Olly Alexander attacks Germaine Greer’s ‘horrifying’ comments about trans people
Olly Alexander of Years & Years has spoken out after author Germaine Greer went on a sweary anti-transgender rant.
Speaking to the Victoria Derbyshire Show last week, feminist author Germaine Greer got “pretty cross” about transgender people.
She said: “Just because you lop off your d**k and then wear a dress doesn’t make you a f***ing woman.
“I’ve asked my doctor to give me long ears and liver spots and I’m going to wear a brown coat but that doesn’t turn me into a f***ing cocker spaniel.
“I do understand that some people are born intersex and they deserve support in coming to terms with their gender but it’s not the same thing.
“A man who gets his dick chopped off is actually inflicting an extraordinary act of violence on himself.”
Greer’s comments did not impress Years & Years singer Olly Alexander, who blasted the “horrifying” remarks.
He tweeted: “this is aggressive and violent hatred from germane greer, its so horrifying”.
The singer recently shared some coming out advice with young fans for National Coming Out Day.
Wearing a basketball t-shirt, he wrote on his Instagram: “In honour of National Coming Out Day I’ve come out inspired by Michael Jordan from one of my fav movies Space Jam.
“Coming out is a very personal thing, so you do it your way, whatever way that is, in your own time.
Just remember it’s good to talk… talk to your friends, talk to your parents, talk to your busted up 90s Space Jam VHS.
“Most importantly never ever be ashamed of who you are, because who you are is f**king awesome, don’t let anybody make you think differently.”
