Grandmother writes touching song for all of her ‘trans grand-kids’ (VIDEO)
Sherri Gray has decided to dedicate her retirement to supporting LGBT equality.
The 75-year-old grandmother, has written a touching song about trans people that may just leave a tear in your eye.
While a lot of people her age tend not to support trans rights, Gray says she wrote the song to show people who are trans that not everyone her age is transphobic.
Rather than relax or take it easy, spends her retirement helping LGBT groups, baking cupcakes and spending time with her newly acquired “family”.
The song – called ‘At last.. I’m ME’ – is dedicated to those who struggle to “step out of the shadows.”
The moving lyrics attempt to describe the difficulties that trans people go through and the relief and joy felt at finding acceptance.
“I’m not who you think I am, I’ve known this since my youth,” she sings.
“Sometimes, I wish upon a star, for a world where we are loved for who we are.”
Even Gray’s description on YouTube is beautiful.
“For all my strong, courageous, wonderful transgender friends…” she writes.
A trans grandmother recently revealed that she has to come out to her mother – who suffers from dementia – every time she sees her.
However, Tina Healy – who is the inspiration behind the best-selling trans children’s story ‘Introducing Teddy’ – says her mother has the same wonderful reaction every time she does.
“I go and see Mum every few weeks and she’s forgotten each time, and every time I tell her again, she gives me just the same beautiful reaction that she did exactly the same, almost word for word every time.
“I’m kind of the luckiest one of all because I get to come out to Mum 100 times a year, and every time, she’s beautiful.”
