BBC Radio One host Nick Grimshaw’s appearances on the X Factor as a judge are failing to stop decreasing listener numbers on his show.

Grimmy’s BBC Radio One breakfast show has dropped listenings month-on-month to the end of September.

The 31-year-old came on board as a host for the X Factor, which also saw the return of Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, and the debut of Rita Ora, in August.

While the X Factor has seen success as commercial TV’s highest rated entertainment show, the BBC One Breakfast Show has lost 70,000 listeners in recent months.

The show now has an average of 5.77 million listeners.

These ratings are up on the first quarter of 2015, which saw Grimmy draw just 5.5 million listeners, the lowest since Sarah Cox in her final three months as host in 2003.

His appearance on the X Factor may still boost ratings for his Radio One show, however, in the next set of listener figures.

Thousands of people apparently didn’t know that the DJ is gay, and have flocked to PinkNews every night X Factor has aired to find out ‘is Nick Grimshaw gay?’

While thousands tweeted, apparently unable to get an answer to the question “is Nick Grimshaw gay?”, many were directed to this PinkNews article.

The X Factor judge has also featured in a list of the most dangerous cyber celebrities.

Others featured in the list include former Spice Girl and style icon Victoria Beckham and actor Tom Hardy – who recently caused controversy be refusing to discuss his sexuality at a press conference.
