Actress Sally Field has passionately denounced claims that an equal rights law would allow men to assault girls in the women’s bathroom.

The city of Houston has faced a protracted battle over the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance – which provides basic protections for LGBT workers.

A ballot on the law will be held this week, but opponents have scaremongered over provisions for trans people – claiming the law will let sex offenders into women’s bathrooms.

Speaking at a Human Rights Campaign fundraiser for the law last week, actress Sally Field had some strong words for anti-LGBT campaigners who are claiming that the ordinance will allow “sexual predators” free reign to roam women’s bathrooms.

She explained: “Why here? why Houston? Why me? Because everyone in this country is watching this.

“There are fifteen different categories of people that it [HERO] protects. I fit into many of those categories.”

When asked about claims made by the Campaign for Houston concerning sex offenders abusing the ordinance, she only had one thing to say.

She told reporters: “It is a lie, it’s a lie, it’s a lie, it’s a lie, that is all there is to it”.

One of the senior figures opposing the rights law recently rallied against the city’s lesbian Mayor, calling for God to “free” her from her “condition”.
