Charges dropped against diversity officer over ‘kill all men’ tweets
A former university diversity officer has had charges against her dropped – after tweeting “kill all white man”.
Bahar Mustafa, the welfare and diversity officer at the Students’ Union of Goldsmiths, University of London, came under fire this month for tweeting “kill all white men” – as well as putting on events that banned white people.
Ms Mustafa defended the tweets, which she said were “in-jokes and ways that many people in the queer feminist community express ourselves” sent from her “personal account”.
She was served with a court summons over the tweets – but the Metropolitan Police today confirmed her case had been discontinued.
The 28-year-old is no longer expected at Bromley Magistrates Court on Thursday.
According to the Standard, she said: “There have been charges laid against me that I am racist and sexist towards white men.
“I, an ethnic minority woman, cannot be racist or sexist towards white men, because racism and sexism describe structures of privilege based on race and gender.
“Therefore, women of colour and minority genders cannot be racist or sexist, since we do not stand to benefit from such a system.”
A CPS spokesperson told the Standard: “Following the decision to discontinue this case, one of the complainants has now requested a review of this decision under the Victim’s Right to Review Scheme.
“It would not be appropriate to comment further on this case until this process has been completed.”
