Peaches: I hope LGBT rights are not just a trend
Electronic musician Peaches has spoken about being recognised for advocating LGBT rights for some time, saying she hopes equal rights are “not just a trend”.
The Jewish Canadian singer spoke to CNN about her long-time support of LGBT rights.
Her lyrics have often been sexually explicit, but have challenged ideas of social norms, and on feminism and sexuality.
“Gay rights are trending. People are telling me for the first time ‘What you’re saying is important,” Peaches said.
“I hope it’s not just a trend. I hope we’re moving forward.”
Her songs, which have also addressed transgender, as well as gay and bisexual issues, have been featured across a number of TV shows and films.
Of her feminist leanings, Peaches went on: “I definitely call myself a feminist and I do believe any woman who doesn’t call themselves a feminist is lying to themselves because why wouldn’t you want to have equal pay? Why wouldn’t you want to have equal rights?
“I think it’s also very important for men to be feminists because … the goal in the end for me is humanist.”
