Bad news about that amazing inclusive Barbie advert
A Barbie ad that features a boy playing with dolls for the first time won’t be appearing on TV any time soon, after the product’s limited run sold out.
The internet went nuts earlier this week over the 30-second ad for ‘Moschino Barbie’ – a partnership with the Italian luxury fashion house, which features a little boy playing with a Barbie.
The kid declares his doll to be “so fierce!”, before helping Barbie to answer her own miniature mobile phone.
However, sadly Mattel has confirmed the ad won’t be making its way to TV screens, after the limited-edition Moschino Barbie dolls sold out on day one.
Mattel, who created the ad alongside Moschino, said: “This video parodies iconic Barbie commercials from the 1980’s starring a young [Moschino creative director] Jeremy Scott look alike.
“The video celebrates how boys and girls alike play with Barbie – it’s all about self-expression, fashion, imagination and storytelling.”
Describing it as a ‘fauxmercial’ as it was never intended to widely air, Mr Scott added: “When I dreamt up the concept for the Moschino Barbie fauxmercial, I felt it was natural to have a little boy representing for all the little boys like myself who played with Barbies growing up.
“Barbie was more than a toy, she was a muse for me.”
