Mr Gay World steps down citing ‘personal changes’
Mr Gay World has stepped down from the position, citing “personal changes”.
The 21-year-old German winner of this year’s Mr Gay World title Klaus Burkart, says his “personal changes” make him unable to “live up to the expectations and serve the community.
Announcing his resignation after seven-months, Burkart made the revelation on the Mr Gay World website.
Burkart wrote: “When I entered the 2015 MR GAY WORLD™ competition in South Africa I thought that becoming MR GAY WORLD™ was the biggest challenge of my life.”
He continued, “Indeed it is very challenging and exciting winning the title, but what is
more challenging is living up to the expectations, responsibilities and
duties that come along with it.”
Adding that the decision comes with “great sadness”, he wrote that his runner up Emmanuel Mass Luciano of Hong Kong would be crowned in his place.
“I know he will be a great representative for our community, who will put all his heart and
passion into his reign,” Burkart concluded.
After announcing that he was stepping down, Burkart wrote on Facebook thanking fans for his support.
21-year-old Burkart, who was described as a “milk technician”, won the competition in South Africa in May.
At the time he said he had plans to visit schools and tackle homophobia.
