Gay man left with fractured skull after horrific violent attack
A man in Dallas, Texas has been hospitalised with a fractured skull – after a spate of attacks on gay men in the city.
Geoffrey Hubbard, a bartender at Cedar Springs Tap House, was jumped by an attacker at 11 PM last night in the city’s ‘gayborhood’ Oak Lawn.
The bartender was struck in the head as a man tried to grab his possessions – but he managed to roll under an SUV to protect himself.
He was admitted to Baylor University Medical Center with a fractured skull.
There have been a number of attacks on gay men in the city in recent months, including baseball bat-wielding assailants targeting a man at a Pride parade in September. Some of the incidents are being investigated as hate crimes.
Mr Hubbard told WFAA: “I had finished my shift, I was actually walking to my friend’s house, when I saw [the robber].
“I could see the calculated robbery start to initiate. He just smacked my in the head and tried grabbing my stuff.
“Luckily I was able to crawl under a car with my squirrelly self and prevent them from taking anything.
Of his injuries, he said: “I have a fracture… a little bit of air got into my skull. They had to take to me to the ICU, and I might be here for a couple days.”
The local LGBT community has urged caution after the latest attack.
Rafael McDonnell, a spokesman for the Resource Center in Dallas, urged caution.
He said: told CBS: “I hope that it doesn’t lead to something really bad, like a homicide.
“In this particular case the victim was so fortunate in that he had the presence of mind, in the middle of the attack, to roll under a car.”
