While Caitlyn Jenner is a woman, she is also a Republican, says Bette Midler
The music legend has criticised the reality star’s political beliefs.
Bette Midler has hit out at Caitlyn Jenner after the former Olympian turned reality star recently revealed that she is still planning to vote GOP in the next years election.
The Hocus Pocus star, who issued an epic putdown to pop star Justin Bieber earlier this month – tweeted her disgust at Jenner’s politics to her 782K followers.
“People, #CaitlynJenner says she is STILL voting GOP in 2016,” she wrote.
“Regardless of gender identity, I guess she identifies most as ‘uninformed.’”
This week, Jenner revealed she still plans to vote for a Republican Presidential candidate – despite most of the contenders being staunch opponents of trans and LGB rights.
Speaking to the LA Times after the Democratic Presidential debate, she said: “They didn’t convince me.”
The frontrunners for the Republican nomination are currently billionaire Donald Trump and Dr Ben Carson – a former Fox News pundit who thinks gay weddings are a Marxist plot and never wants to pee next to a transgender person.
Meanwhile, the reality star continued to receive a backlash after being named ‘Woman of the Year’ by Glamour.
The move did not go down well with James Smith – whose wife Moira Smith was named Woman of the Year in 2001, after perishing in the 9/11 attack rescue efforts.
Mr Smith vented on Facebook, branding Jenner a ‘man’ and referring to her by her former name.
He wrote: “After discussing this slap in the face to the memory of our Hero with my family, I have decided to return Moira’s award to Glamour Magazine.
“I was shocked and saddened to learn that Glamour has just named [former name] Jenner ‘Woman of the Year’.
“I find it insulting to Moira Smith’s memory, and the memory of other heroic women who have earned this award. Was there no woman in America, or the rest of the world, more deserving than this man?”
Actress turned mouthpiece Rose McGowan – who has a history of homophobia and transphobia – also criticised the move.
“Woman of the year? Not by a long f**king shot,” she wrote on Facebook.
A Glamour spokesperson said: “We were proud to honour his wife in 2001, and we stand by our decision to honour Caitlyn Jenner.
“Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards recognise women with a variety of backgrounds and experiences.”
