Gay Muslim shares vile Grindr messages he got after Paris attacks
A gay Muslim has shared messages he received on Grindr following the heartbreaking attacks on Paris.
Anthony Magallanez received the abusive messages as Muslims around the world face a backlash after the attacks which killed 130 people.
The 22-year-old logged onto Grindr in his hometown Phoenix, to find the messages from a user who changed his profile name to ‘We Are Paris’.
Magallanez shared screenshots of the exchange, during which ‘We Are Paris’ showed the depths of human ignorance.
He opened with a charming line, accusing Magallanez of being a member of ISIS.
As Magallanez had Arabic writing, the lyrics from a Lebanese song, on his profile, the user instructed him to remove it, calling it “terrorist writing”.
The lyrics were from a song by Fairouz, and translate to “I loved you in the winter.”
In later messages, the man told Magallanez to “watch” himself, threatening to “kick [his] ass all the way back to Iraq”.
At which point the 22-year-old pointed out that he is Lebanese.
It only got worse from there, before Magallanez blocked him.
Speaking to Mic, he said: “How it jumped from a simple sentence on my profile to me being a terrorist, I find that outrageous.”
He said that the user in question had a clause on his profile saying “no fats, no femmes”.
Magallanez also said he has received anti-Muslim and racist messages before, and accuses dating apps of harbouring racism, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism.
He added: “I’ve had more gay people tell me I’m going to be thrown off a roof and stoned than Muslims. I find that humorous.”
