‘Christian College’ won’t extend tuition discount to LGBT Military spouses
Liberty University, a private Christian university in Leesburg, Virginia offers a discount to the spouses of military personnel.
But only if you are married to the opposite sex, according to the rules stated on Liberty University’s website.
“Any scholarship, voucher, grant, benefit, or other assistance, funded by or facilitated at the discretion of Liberty University, that is made available to spouses of military service members or veterans due to their status as such, will only be available to ‘spouses’ as defined by Liberty University as a husband or wife of a service member who together are in state-sanctioned marriage and are natural-born members of the opposite sex,” the website states.
A woman who goes by the name Janay, made the discovery after being accepted onto an online program according to a report in Spousebuzz.
But she was turned down for the military spouse discount because she is in a same-sex marriage.
“I know they’re a private, Christian college and they are allowed to make their own rules,” she told Spousebuzz
“But you will accept me to ‘get my money,’ but deny me a discount due to me being married to the same sex?”
Liberty University was established by notorious anti-LGBT pastor Jerry Fallwell, where he served as president until his death in 2007.
The college is now run by his son, Jerry Fallwell Jnr.
Many Republican presidential candidates have made appearances at the college as part of their campaigns, including , Ben Carson, Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz who launched his presidential bid there.
Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders also made an appearance at the college where he called for ‘tolerance on all sides’.
Previously a member of the faculty at the college claimed that “Allowing gay Boy Scouts will put them ‘up for grabs’ by ‘sexual predators’ and communists”.
