Sue Perkins to host new BBC quiz show
The Great British Bake Off presenter will host new show, ‘Insert Name Here’.
The BBC has announced that Sue Perkins will front a new quiz show due to hit screens next year.
The six part series, titled Insert Name Here, will air on BBC Two and see Perkins joined by Pointless co-host Richard Osman.
Josh Widdecombe will join the Osman as team captain, as opposing sides battle against each other to “argue over who is greatest owner of a particular name.”
“In Hebrew, the name Susan means ‘graceful lily’ – in Khmer it means ‘girl with the bad puns’ and in ancient Aztec it translates as ‘she with the cockerel hair and dirty glasses’” Perkins said about the show.
“This particular Susan can’t wait to get stuck into a whole host of Davids, Peters, Jonathans and Gertrudes – with the help of a magnificent Richard and a wonderful Joshua.”
“From QI and Only Connect to University Challenge and Mock the Week, BBC Two has cemented a unique reputation for clever quizzes like no other channel and I’m thrilled that Insert Name Here is joining our line-up,” added Kim Shillinglaw, controller of BBC Two.
“With the terrific Sue Perkins at the helm alongside the fantastic Josh and Richard you couldn’t ask for better company and this show promises to be both entertaining and enlightening.”
Earlier this year, Perkins discussed how she had “gone rogue”, attacking the culture secretary John Whittingdale over possible BBC funding cuts.
The star has also revealed how she and her GBBO co-host Mel Giedroyc nearly spent a night in the cells after pulling a prank on Paul Hollywood.
A chat show featuring the pair was recently cut by ITV after failing to attract high enough viewer numbers – despite the pair’s success.
The Great British Bake Off host is currently in a relationship with fellow TV presenter, Secret Eaters host Anna Richardson.
