Sweetie, darlings! Ab Fab release date and plot line revealed
Edina and Patsy will be hitting the big screen next summer.
Jennifer Saunders has announced the official release date for ‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’.
As filming of the movie wrapped up, Saunders revealed that Edina and Patsy’s first big screen outing will hit cinema screens July 1 2016.
Producers also took the opportunity to confirm a little more about the plot – but managed to avoid revealing too much.
“Edina and Patsy are still oozing glitz and glamour, living the high life they are accustomed to; shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London’s trendiest hotspots,” they said in a statement.
“Blamed for a major incident at an uber fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm and are relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi.
“Fleeing penniless to the glamorous playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent and live the high life forever more!”
The Ab Fab movie has been getting a lot of attention since its announcement earlier in the year.
Saunders added to the excitement around the film by announcing that she hoped to cast nearly 100 drag queens in the film.
The news was revealed after talent scouts began the hunt for ninety-six drag queens and “draggy camp fantastic looking queers” to join the cast.
On top of eight drag queens to perform individually – as well as seventy to be in an audience – the production team are also hoping to cast eighteen celebrity drag lookalikes.
The lookalikes are set to include Cher (obviously), Madonna and Dolly Parton impersonators.
Real life celebrities said to be taking part include One Direction’s Harry Styles – who will be playing the love interest of Lumley’s hard partying character.
Also set to star are Glee’s Chris Colfer, acting legend Joan Collins, Emma Bunton and Kim Kardashian West.
