Transparent creator Jill Soloway comes out
She announced she is in a relationship with poet Eileen Myles.
Jill Soloway ā the creative genius behind hit TV show āTransparentā ā came out during a recent interview.
Soloway is currently dating esteemed poet Eileen Myles ā who she says inspired an upcoming storyline in the showās second season.
It will show one character falling in love with an older female professor ā who Soloway admits is based on Myles.
The writers of the show even acquired Mylesā journals in order to make the character more believable.
āI open it up, and the first thing it says is āWhoever falls in love with me is in trouble,āā Soloway told the New Yorker.
āIt was like she wrote to me without even knowing that I existed.ā
The writer says she fell for the poet the moment the pair met.
āWe had pretty much an instant connection,ā she said.
The Emmy winning writer had already separated from her husband ā music supervisor Bruce Gilbert ā before she and Myles began their relationship.
However, she said the pair remain close ā not least because Gilbert works on āTransparentā too.
āWeāll always do the Jewish holidays together,ā she said.
Soloway has previously spoken about how the show is a semi-autobiographical story based on the transition of her own parent from male to female.
When accepting awards on behalf of the series, she has often spoken about her own Moppa ā an invented word for a transgender parent also used to refer to Jeffrey Tamborās character in the series.
Her real-life Moppa appeared in public for the first time last month, at a White House LGBT reception where the first episode of the showās second series was aired.
The White Houseās LGBT Artists Champions of Change event was part of a programme recognising the achievements of activists on a range of issues.
Soloway shared a picture of Tambor and her parent, writing: āMoppa and Moppa at the White House.ā
The writer also posted a picture of her Moppa meeting with Senior Advisor to the President, Valerie Jarrett.
