Watch: People are horrified by Bible quotes when they think they’re from the Qur’an
Did you hear about the scary religious book that oppresses women and calls for gay people to be stoned to death?
Pranksters in the Netherlands decided to explore sentiment towards Islam in the West by asking members of the public to comment on verses from the Qur’an.
The catch? The passages are actually from the Bible.
Dutch YouTubers ‘Dit Is Normal’ dressed up their Bible in a Qur’an cover, and picked out some extra gory passages.
There’s no shortage of material in the Old Testament, of course.
If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
If a man has sexual relations with a woman during her monthly period, he has exposed the source of her flow, and she has also uncovered it. Both of them are to be cut off from their people.
If in spite of this you do not obey Me but act with hostility toward Me, I will act with furious hostility toward you; I will also discipline you seven times for your sins. You will eat the flesh of your sons; you will eat the flesh of your daughters.
I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and heap your dead bodies on the lifeless bodies of your idols; I will reject you. I will reduce your cities to ruins and devastate your sanctuaries. I will not smell the pleasing aroma of your sacrifices.
However, when the pair told ordinary people that the quotes were from the Muslim holy book, the reaction was very different of that towards the Bible.
One man warns: “If you’ve been raised with this book and these kinds of thoughts, it’s going to influence the way you think.”
Another woman says: “How could anyone believe in this?! That’s unbelievable to me.”
A third person adds: “To me this sounds like they want to oppress you and force you to believe what they believe… the world is changing and I think they should have to adapt to it.”
When asked how they think the Qur’an differs from the Bible, people explain that the Bible is “more peaceful” and has more “positive” stuff in.
