Former adult entertainment star Bo Dean has been paralysed from the waist down after being shot in the chest.
The star was left fighting for his life after an argument with a friend escalated into violence.
Dean remains in a critical condition, after emergency services struggled to save him.
However, the actor has been left bankrupt by the incident, as he does not have the money to pay for his mounting medical costs.
His friends have set up a GoFundMe page, explaining the star’s situation and pleading with his fans to help ensure he receives the best possible care.
“On November 28, while in New Orleans, Michael (Bo) was tragically shot in the chest while having an argument with a friend,” the page reads.
“He was rushed to University Medical Centre, where he remains and is receiving critical medical care.
“He suffered an injury to the spinal cord. He’s paralysed from the waist down.”
Dean’s friends say that this is only the start of his journey to recovery, but that he does not have the money to cover any further treatment.
“He has no insurance. No source of income, no way to pay the mounting medical bills and other related expenses (medicines, wheelchair, treatments, rehabilitation etc etc).
“This unfortunate incident happened right after we lost our home and was destroyed by a fire,” they add.
“We’ve lost pretty much everything and had to start from scratch.”
The actor is well known in the gay adult entertainment industry.
Dean performed for several high-profile gay porn studios during his career, including Raging Stallion, Jake Cruise, CocksureMen, NextDoor, and Men.com.
The actor retired from the industry in 2011.
At the time of writing, the GoFundMe page had raised $1,475 of its $50,000 goal.
