Republican lawmaker: I spoke to God and he says we have to scrap gay marriage
A Republican lawmaker in Tennessee has claimed that God has personally told him to take up the cause of fighting to void same-sex marriages.
Equality came to the deep south state earlier this year, when the Supreme Court ruled that it is unconstitutional to ban same-sex weddings.
However, that hasn’t stopped him Tennessee State Rep. Mark Pody… who claims to have powerful allies on his side.
Speaking in a sermon, the lawmaker – who has drafted a bill to attempt to “nullify” the Supreme Court’s ruling in the state – claimed the idea to try and void the existing marriages of thousands of loving couples came directly from God.
He said: “I believe God talks to me in prayer and says ‘this is your role’.
“When this [equal marriage] ruling came, I believe God told me this: “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel, therefore the word at my mouth and give them warning from me.
“When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.”
He continued: “Ladies and gentlemen, I believe I’m supposed to be speaking to the unsaved, to the people that are performing same-sex marriages, to the people involved in same-sex marriages.
“It is wicked, it is wrong and I am doing the best I can to warn them.
“I believe that the bill that we’re are trying to put out right now is to say, ‘No, it will not happen here!’
“I believe that Nashville, Tennessee, is the time and the place that we put down the stake and we say, ‘No more!’”
