Ruby Rose and Phoebe Dahl call off their engagement
Lesbian ‘it’ couple Ruby Rose and Phoebe Dahl have called time on their two year romance.
The Australian DJ and actress was engaged to the fashion designer and Roald Dahl’s granddaughter since March 2014.
The pair – who have garnered a lot of attention on social media during their relationship – have yet to give a reason for the “amicable” break up.
Talking to US weekly on Monday, Dahl-who owns clothing company Faithcloth & Supply said : “After two wonderful years together, Ruby and I have decided to part ways.”
“While we still love each other and support each other in every way, it is our mutual decision to part ways.
“Our break is not the result of any media speculation, and we want nothing but the best for each other. Thank you for respecting our privacy in this very difficult time”.
The couple had embarked on a whirlwind romance – becoming engaged after just three months on from meeting at a barbecue Dahl was hosting.
“Do I believe in love at first sight? I didn’t before Ruby but now I do,” Dahl said at the time.
The feeling was mutual for the 29 year old Australian, who added: “I thought, ‘Oh my God, I need to marry her. Who is she?’”.
Dahl, who was already in a relationship, quickly called it off and the pair then “spent every day together” – until three months later when Rose proposed “before even saying the L word”.
“Oh, I haven’t told you I love you yet! I love you”, Rose admitted.
However, Rose’s rising public profile soon put wedding plans on the back burner, after she landed a lead role in ‘Orange Is The New Black’.
The couple decided to postpone their vows due to their busy schedules – but there was worry within the industry that the distance would take it’s toll on the relationship.
Rose – who is currently filming ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’ – took to Twitter to express her continued love and support for her ex.
“Phoebe remains very dear to my heart. I will forever treasure our time together,” she wrote.
“I’m a better person because of the time we shared”.
