Four trans women arrested after man falls to his death
Four transgender women have been arrested in after a man plunged to his death from a fourth-floor window.
Naami Keyghobadi, 28, from Leeds, was found on Tuesday, lying face-up in a street in Pattaya, a city on the east coast of Thailand which is known for its nightlife.
When Mr Keyghobadi was discovered, he had no shirt on and was suffering from a broken leg, broken ribs and internal injuries, according to The Bangkok Post.
He was later pronounced dead at Pattaya Memorial Hospital.
Pattaya police say they have arrested four transgender women in connection with his death.
Officers said that one of the women claimed she had argued with the deceased over money he owed her for sexual services.
She told police that Mr Keyghobadi had climbed out of the window of his own accord and was not pushed.
However, the accounts of the other women – two of whom are known sex workers – are said to differ, according The Post.
In addition, all four failed drug tests and remain in police custody.
“There are witnesses who said he fell down on his own, but we are not convinced,” said Colonel Anukul Preedayuth of Pattaya City Police Station.
“We are looking for more witnesses and evidence. The matter is under investigation.”
The Keyghobadi family said that they hope to avoid “unhelpful speculation” during this time of distress.
“Naami, who was 28 years old, travelled to Thailand on holiday on December 4 and was due to return on December 30,” the family said in a statement.
“We are obviously very distressed by the news of his death and are concerned that there will be unhelpful speculation about the circumstances in which he died.”
The Foreign Office confirmed the news, although did not release any further details regarding the incident.
“We are providing support to the family of a British national who died in Thailand on 15 December, and are also in contact with local authorities regarding the death.”
