Sarah Palin has a ‘political crush’ on French far-right MP
Sarah Palin has claimed she has a “political crush” on an MP for France’s far-right National Front.
France’s Front Nationale has seen a massive surge following the Paris terrorist attacks – increasing its share of the vote to nearly 30 percent in recent regional elections.
The FN’s rise in popularity has raised concerns about the homophobic and anti-Semitic views that have previously been mainstream in the party.
However, that hasn’t dissuaded former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
The Tea Party politician, who was John McCain’s Presidential running mate in 2008, gushed about 26-year-old FN MP Marion Maréchal-Le Pen – niece of party leader Marine Le Pen.
She wrote in Breitbart: “I have a political crush, but one I couldn’t vote for today – because she ran for office in France.
“Marion Maréchal-Le Pen is the new deserved ‘It Girl’ of French politics and a clear voice of courage and common sense in a country and continent in need of both.”
She wrote: “For some time now, I’ve admired the bold style of Marine Le Pen, who wrestled control of the leadership of her populist party in order to purge it of any trace of anti-Semitism, which it had unfortunately been tainted with in the past.
“But I’m especially impressed with the courage of her young niece who is a devout Catholic and unapologetically pro-life – not an easy thing for a politician to be in a country that’s aggressively secular.
“More importantly, young Marion Maréchal-Le Pen is unashamed to champion France’s Judeo-Christian identity and heritage as something worth preserving and fighting for.
“She publicly proclaims it, setting an example for even American politicians to be so bold.”
Palin also claimed that only Le Pen and her colleagues were taking the threat of Islamic State (Daesh) seriously, writing: “The Left wraps itself in political correctness and multiculturalism like a suicide vest.
“They’d rather blow up the whole country than admit the stupidity of thinking a nation can remain the same after inviting in millions of people who despise its values.”
