EastEnders star teases Ben Mitchell coming out storyline
EastEnders star Harry Reid has teased that his character will finally be honest about his sexuality next year.
Reid is the fifth actor to play Ben Mitchell, a character who has appeared on the BBC soap for nearly two decades.
The “sexually confused” character is currently in a relationship with girlfriend Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald)… while having an affair with Paul Coker (Jonny Labey).
Explaining what the New Year holds for Mitchell, Reid teased: “Look towards Ben growing up – taking control of the situations with Paul, with Abi, with his dad and his family.
“Expect more feelings to emerge between Ben and Paul. I’d like Ben to finally be honest about his sexuality.
“And I’d love to see how Abi would react – I think she’d hit the roof.”
The character was recently outed to his dad, Phil Mitchell, after he walked in on a half-naked office romp.
Fans were stunned at a plotline on the soap in October – when it was revealed that his character Les Coker has a female alter ego called Christine.
Actor Roger Sloman explained: “I got Kellie Maloney’s book to read during all this and it was interesting what she went through.
“She’s transgender, which Les is not but what struck me, and helped me with Les, is the turmoil that [she] went through.
“To feel like you are living a lie, keeping all those secrets and then to break it to your family, wow.”
