Watch: Kylie Minogue is the ‘queen of gay bars’ in musical TV show
Kylie Minogue might have upped her game as a gay icon – after appearing as the owner of a gay bar in a TV show.
The star appeared in the series 2 premiere of ABC’s musical fantasy comedy Galavant – in which her real-life boyfriend plays the titular dashing knight hero.
The show has struggled with low ratings in its first year, but joked in its series two opener about shelling out for guest stars to compensate.
The cast sang: “It’s a new season for our hero and pals/A new season and it’s gonna be scorchin’/Off on new sprees and new exotic locales/With new guests who’ll cost the network a fortune.”
The first episode is no exception, with Minogue appearing as the The Queen – the owner of a gay bar in the Enchanted Forest.
The disco diva sings a special extra-camp track penned by Alan Menken – ‘Off With His Shirt’.
In it, she flirts with Galavant, ordering him to either remove his shirt or be thrown to ‘The Bear’.
She sings to the knight: “You trespassed upon my kingdom, and now you’re in my sway. Which basically means as Queen of all queens, I’m going to make you pay.
“One thing for sure will settle the score, and trust me it’s more than fair. Off with his shirt! Strip him down. Don’t be shy boys, go to town.”
Galavant mercifully obliges – and it’s possibly the gayest thing that Kylie Minogue’s ever done.
