Matt Bomer talks battling anxiety, keeping fit and Lady Gaga (VIDEO)
The actor opened up about his workout regime and body image during a recent cover shoot for Men’s Fitness.
Matt Bomer has discussed how being an actor has affected his body, after his recent roles led the actor to dramatically change his image.
The actor had shed a shocking amount of weight to portray a man dying of AIDS in The Normal Heart, before piling on the pounds to play a stripper in the Magic Mike.
However, the gay father-of-two says that adapting himself physically is actually one of the best parts of his job.
“One of my favourite parts of being an actor is just getting the chance to embody the sheer physicality of whatever character it is you are playing,” he told Men’s Fitness during a recent cover shoot.
“It’s all about telling the story in the most realistic way possible.”
Bomer added that rather than cause him stress, a regular workout routine helps him battle anxiety – although he prefers meditation to hitting the gym.
“It’s what I do to keep myself sane. Everyone needs a reset button so you can start your day without anxiety,” he said.
“For some people it’s running, for some it’s going to the gym. For me it’s meditation.”
Bomer is currently starring in American Horror Story: Hotel alongside Lady Gaga – and he has become a huge fan of his new co-star.
“She is one of the most intelligent people I’ve ever known and her intelligence is equalled by her heart.”
He also told of some career advice the singer gave him recently.
“We were talking and she said, ‘A lot of creating a name for yourself in this business is just having the heart to stay in the game.
“It’s a lot about learning how to get up and dust yourself off and stand up against adversity or whoever may be being an obstacle for you and having the heart to stay open as an artist and creative as an artist.’”
