Dame Edna ‘disassociates’ herself from own alter ego Barry Humphries over trans comments
Dame Edna Everage has bizarrely ādisassociatedā herself from comments made by the person who plays her.
Barry Humphries, the comedian behind drag icon Dame Edna Everage, claimed in an interview this week that he agrees with author Germaine Greerās derisive comments about āmen who believe that they are women and have themselves castratedā.
He said: āI agree with Germaine! Youāre a mutilated man, thatās all. Self-mutilation, whatās all this carry on? Caitlyn Jenner ā what a publicity-seeking ratbag.
āItās all given the stamp ā not of respectability, but authenticity or something. If you criticise anything youāre racist or sexist or homophobic.ā
Greer has previously claimed that ālopping off your d**k and wearing a dress doesnāt make you a f***ing womanā and has accused Caitlyn Jenner of transitioning so she could steal attention from her Kardashian co-stars.
Referencing the controversy over Humphriesā comments today, Dame Ednaās official social media channels posted a bizarre message attempting to ādistance herselfā from her own alter ego.
She wrote: āIām partly Aboriginal. Iām certainly Jewish.
āI could play Canasta at the age of five. And I disassociate myself from anything Barry Humphries has to say.
āI fired him years ago but he refuses to accept dismissal. The poor thing is losing the plot.
āHe deserves our pity not our disapproval.ā
