EastEnders star John Partridge reveals tragic reason behind doing Celebrity Big Brother
The West End star has admitted the reason he’s taking part in this year’s version of the Channel 5 reality show.
Actor John Partridge has revealed the reason he chose to take part in this year’s first series of Celebrity Big Brother.
The star – best known for playing Christian Clarke on BBC soap Eastenders – says he’s entered the infamous house so he can pay off his care home bills for his mother, who has been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for six years.
“My mum has Alzheimer’s, I pay for her care and it is expensive. The honest answer is I’m here to pay her bills,” he admitted before entering the show.
Partridge added that although he does not care what people think about him being on the show, he wanted to clarify that he is doing it for his family – not because he is “washed up”.
“I unashamedly say, ‘You can say what you want, but no one takes cares of my bills other than me and that is what I am here to do.’”
However, he went on to say that he is looking forward to having fun in the house and being cut off from the outside world.
“It’s not all doom and gloom. I’m also coming in to the Big Brother house to have no responsibility,” he told The Mirror.
“Most people are like ‘Urgh, they’ve got to take your phone away’ and I’m like ‘Take it! Turn it off!’
“I don’t have kids, I don’t have things like that – yes I miss my husband, but in some ways, I find the whole thing quite liberating.”
Channel 5 faced a backlash for allowing a former UKIP candidate to participate in Celebrity Big Brother.
Winston McKenzie entered the CBB house last night, and was shown in his entry video making a ‘joke’ about gay people.
Ofcom has received a number of complaints of the clip and said it will decide whether it will investigate the comments.
A former UKIP PPC for Croydon North, Winston McKenzie previously claimed that same-sex adoption is child abuse said he was ‘dismayed’ to find out that Kellie Maloney is transgender.
