Donald Trump’s speech written by a pastor who compares gays to paedophiles
Given Donald Trumpās tendency for long, rambling, ill-informed diatribes, youād be forgiven for thinking he doesnāt employ any speechwriters.
But the truth is much, much worse than that.
The billionaire reality TV star-turned-politician revealed more than he intended after making a slip quoting the wrong Bible verse during a speech at a Christian university.
Hitting back after being mocked, Trump told CNN: āTony Perkins wrote that out for meā¦ Tony Perkins is a very, very good guy.
āHe actually wrote out the Two, he wrote out the number āTwo Corinthiansā.
āI took exactly what Tony said, and thought, Tony has to know better than anybody.ā
When heās not apparently moonlighting as a Trump speechwriter, Tony Perkins is head of the Family Research Council ā listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center because its extremist anti-gay views.
As Donald Trump thinks heās such a great guy, hereās the Tony Perkins greatest hits.
Perkins has made a number of extremely disturbing claims about gay people in the past, insisting Christians are āgoing to find ourselves being loaded in cattle cars like it was when the Nazis took over before we realize we are in such terrible dangerā.
He claims that Christians are being sent to ācampsā, and that soon gays are āgoing to start rolling out the boxcars to start hauling off Christiansā.
The SPLC notes he compared gays to paedophiles, saying: āWhile activists like to claim that paedophilia is a completely distinct orientation from homosexuality, evidence shows a disproportionate overlap between the two. It is a homosexual problem.ā
Perkins has also claimed that letting gay people serve in the Boy Scouts will increase the risk of child molestation.
Despite insisting he is simply an activist for āreligious freedomā, Perkins simultaneously says that clergy who support gay rights donāt deserve ātrue religious freedomā.
He also branded the āIt Gets Betterā anti-bullying campaign ādisgustingā, saying: āItās part of a concerted effort to recruit [kids] into that lifestyle.ā
Ahead of the Supreme Court court ruling in favour of equal marriage, Perkins threatened a ārevolutionā in the United States over the issue.
Great guy, that Tony Perkins.
