The head of a Christian charity appears to have declared war on gay people ā€“ claiming they are ā€œthe enemyā€ and should be thrown out of churches.

Pastor Franklin Graham, the head of global Christian charity Samaritanā€™s Purse, made the comments in a radio Q&A with Focus on the Family.

The pastor, whose charity runs the annual shoebox appeal, claimed: ā€œWe have allowed the enemy to come into our churches.

ā€œI was talking to some Christians and they were talking about how they invited these gay children to come into their home and to come into the church and that they were wanting to influence them.

ā€œAnd I thought to myself, theyā€™re not going to influence those kids, those kids are going to influence those parentsā€™ children.

ā€œWhat happens is we think we can fight by smiling and being real nice and lovingā€¦ we have to understand who the enemy is and what he wants.

ā€œHe wants to devour our homes. He wants to devour this nation.ā€

He continued: ā€œWe have to be so careful who we let our kids hang out with.

ā€œWe have to be so careful who we let into the churches. You have immoral people that get into the churches and it begins to affect the others in the church and it is dangerous.ā€

ā€œIā€™m going to encourage the Church to take a stand for Christ. Homosexuality has been allowed into our schools ā€“ thatā€™s why I want to get the school boards back.

ā€œHomosexuality is taught to be OK in our universities, and you have all these diversity classes and all these nice names that they come up with promoting and pushing homosexuality.ā€

He added: ā€œYou cannot stay gay and continue to call yourself a Christian. You canā€™t do it.

ā€œWe have allowed sin to come into our churches, and we need to repent of our sins.ā€

Graham has recently praised Vladimir Putinā€™s support anti-gay laws, and claimed that homosexuals ā€œtake peopleā€™s childrenā€.

He told a Russian newspaper: ā€œI very much appreciate that President Putin is protecting Russian young people against homosexual propaganda. If only to give them the opportunity to grow up and make a decision for themselves.ā€

Repeating disturbing rhetoric used by anti-LGBT activists in Russia, he said: ā€œHomosexuals cannot have children, they can take other peopleā€™s children.ā€
