Grindr stopped working and gay guys everywhere totally lost it
Grindr experienced a major outage this weekend – and definitely not in a good way.
Some of the app’s users reported a total shutdown on Saturday, when the hook-up service suddenly stopped loading.
An error message shown to some users later said: “Unfortunately the app is experience an outage at the moment, but our tech team is on the case and working tirelessly to get us back up and running.
“Thanks for your patience.”
Though service was mercifully restored for most users, some continue to report reliability problems and glitches.
The reaction on Twitter made everything worth it though, even if it did ruin many people’s weekend flings.
For those hoping for a servicing, we are assured that service has been resumed.
The outage came just weeks after a majority stake in the company was sold to a Chinese gaming firm for $93m (£64m).
Chinese firm Beijing Kunlun Tech – which has not previously made products for a gay market – made the announcement of the deal in a filing to the Shenzhen stock exchange.
Grindr founder Joel Simkhai explained: “It will generally be business as usual for us here at Grindr, but with a renewed sense of purpose and additional resources to deliver a great product to you. We hope you are enjoying our app and know you will be delighted by the new features and services we have planned this year.
“Most importantly, none of this growth and change would have been possible without the hard work of our Grindr employees and partners, who have made so much happen in just under seven years, and keep me inspired every day to keep growing our brand.”
