Leaflets handed out in Northern Ireland claiming all gays are child-abusing Nazis
Leaflet have been distributed in Northern Ireland linking gay people to child abuse and Nazis.
The shocking claims were made on fliers handed out in the streets of Derry-Londonderry, and appear to be linked to homophobic Catholic activists calling themselves the ‘Children’s Protection Society’.
The leaflet attacks last year’s referendum on same-sex marriage in the Republic of Ireland, claiming it was “rigged” like public votes held by Hitler.
It continues: “The Southern government did not want people to know that the order to murder the Jews – and gypsies – was given by a man who was 7:1 homosexual, or 8:0 bisexual.
“This was Hitler, who also used his homosexual formation, the SS, to commit almost the whole Holocaust. They supervised it all.”
The leaflet also makes a surreal claim about a “link” between gay people and child abusers, suggesting: “Oxford University’s dictionaries said child abuser means homosexual and homosexual means child abuser.”
Unsurprisingly, this is not actually the case.
The Oxford English Dictionary describes homosexuality as being “sexually attracted to people of one’s own sex” – while the Oxford Learner’s Dictionary describes child abuse as “the crime of harming a child in a physical, sexual or emotional way”.
Despite this, the leaflet continues to claim that “homosexuals have the longest child abuse record in history”.
The leaflet claims to have been written by a Mr John Clerkin of Dublin – but PinkNews could not verify this.
Director of The Rainbow Project, John O’Doherty said: “These smears and outright lies about LGB&T people, and particularly gay men, have long been peddled by the opponents of our community.
“Although these claims may appear outlandish, there will be nothing new about them to LGB&T people, many of whom have constantly been made to feel that they represent the worst and most depraved aspects of humanity.
“These lies find succour in a society which, although slowly edging towards equality for LGB&T people, still contains pervasive and damaging homophobic and transphobic attitudes.”

John O’Doherty added: “I was proud to participate in Holocaust Memorial Day last week to highlight the persecution of LGB&T people by the Nazi state and to remember the up to 50,000 gay men who were brutally murdered in Nazi death camps.
“We also painfully remember that after the so-called liberation of the camps, many gay men were immediately imprisoned for the crime of being gay.
“There is no place in this society for those who would scapegoat LGB&T people for the failings of others and who would peddle the myth that LGB&T people are a threat to children.
“I want to personally thank the resident for having the courage to report this liar to the police and also to thank the police for accurately recording this as a hate incident.”
