Sir Elton John is ‘phasing out’ his music career to spend time with his kids

Sir Elton John has said he is planning to ā€œphase outā€ his career to spend more time with his family.

The singer made the announcement in an interview with BBC Radio 2ā€™s Ken Bruce, ahead of the release of his new album Wonderful Crazy Night.

The singer, who recently celebrated his eleventh anniversary with husband and long-time partner David Furnish, said he plans to spend more time as a family with him and sons Zachary and Elijah.

He told the radio host: ā€œItā€™s all about the kids now ā€“ everything is worked out around half term and when theyā€™re going to be in school, when theyā€™re out of school, and they are the most important things in my life. They take preference over everything.

ā€œObviously I work ā€“ but the work will get less and less and Iā€™ll spend more time with my children growing up.

ā€œAnd thatā€™s what I want to do, Iā€™ll gradually phase things out in a few years.ā€

He added: ā€œItā€™s not forever but I want to see my kids grow up. I go all over the world. I just donā€™t want to tour so much.

ā€œAt the moment, itā€™s just about when the boys are out of school and how much we can spend with them.ā€

However, the workaholic musician ā€“ who has released 32 studio albums, four live albums and seven soundtracks across his career, still has a few big projects before he can step away entirely.

He said: ā€œIā€™m working on a musical, but I canā€™t tell you about that yetā€¦ and then Iā€™m working on another musical after.ā€
