Why was a 58-year-old widow told she couldn’t stay in a caravan?
A widow from the UK has told of how she was rejected from booking onto a campsite because she is single.
Annette Gration, 58, who lost her husband to cancer last year, said she was rejected by the Searles of Hunstanton motor home company because she was on her own.
The company said it has a policy which means singles are not permitted to stay in its motor homes.
But now it has said the issue would be addressed come its next policy review.
Gration, whose husband Phil died last year from cancer, has said she decided to speak out because she was made to feel like “an oddity”.
“I felt I was an oddity and not welcome because of my marital status,” she said.
“Why was I discriminated against as a single person? I’m quite angry.”
According to the BBC, Searles issued two statements following its enquiries.
The company at first said it was “prepared to exercise discretion… if we feel it appropriate.”
The widow has been allowed to make her booking, but only because she said her son would be staying with her on the campsite.
