Orange is the New Black renewed for three more series
Netflix has said yes to three more years of the hugely popular show.
Netflix has renewed its most-watched original series Orange is the New Black for three more seasons
Fans of the show will also be pleased to that its runner, Jenji Kohan, will remain in charge of the hit comedy-drama for its fifth, sixth and seventh run.
“Three more years! Not quite a political term but still plenty of time to do some interesting things,” she said.
“In some cultures, ‘May you lead an interesting life’ is a curse but I don’t live in those cultures. Here’s to keeping it interesting.
She also shared her gratitude to those who help make the show – based in an all-female prison.
“Thanks Netflix! Both thanks and you’re welcome Lionsgate and kudos and gratitude to the stellar cast and crew and writers and producers and editors and musicians and mixers and shleppers with whom I have the pride and honour of crafting this show.
“Three more years! Three more years!”
The first trailer landed for the show’s fourth season last month – but the 46-second clip is not giving much away about what’s in store for the inmates of Lichfield.
The fates of lesbian characters Alex Vause (last seen about to be bludgeoned to death) and Stella Carlin (last seen being sent to maximum security) are both kept ambiguous – though actresses Laura Prepon and Ruby Rose are both signed on to appear again.
The show is popular with fans and critics alike, winning countless awards since it began in 2013.
At last weekend’s SAG awards, Uzo Abuda picked up her second award for Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role as Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren.
The show’s entire cast also picked up the Best Ensemble award – with an extensive 35 cast members name-checked, including Laverne Cox, Ruby Rose, and Lea DeLaria.
Valiantly, most of the show’s ensemble managed to make it onto the stage.
The show’s fourth season is set to air on June 17.
