Lawmaker apologises to trans community because they are ‘so twisted’
A state Senator in South Dakota has apologised to the trans community, saying they are “so twisted”.
The senator spoke during a legislative coffee event on Saturday, saying he would vote for a bill banning trans people from using gender-appropriate bathrooms and locker rooms.
“I’m sorry if you’re so twisted you don’t even know who you are,” Omdahl said about trans people.
The crowd at the event were so loud after the comments that the moderator was forced to call for quiet for him to finish.
Going on, Omdahl said he doesn’t believe in treating gender dysphoria by allowing people to transition.
“They’re treating the wrong part of the anatomy. They ought to be treating it up here,” Omdahl said, gesturing towards his forehead.

Representative Steve Haugaard also called transgender identities a “choice of lifestyle”.
“For us to perpetuate confusion in the lives of anyone is a disservice to them,” Haugaard said.
The bill, HB 1008, which passed in the House with a 58-10 vote, is set for a vote in the Senate.
