Ted Cruz ‘proud’ of endorsement from pastor who claims God sent Hitler, gays will cause apocalypse
Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz is “proud” to be nominated by a pastor who claims gays will cause the apocalypse.
Senator Cruz is currently in the running for the Republican Presidential nomination, topping the field in Iowa last week though crashing to third place in New Hampshire.
The candidate, who is popular with evangelicals has faced repeated questions about his links to controversial far-right Christian groups – but has repeatedly declined to condemn ‘death to gays’ pastor Kevin Swanson, with whom he has ties.
Cruz has now touted an endorsement by an anti-gay figure – this time from ‘International House of Prayer’ pastor Mike Bickle.
Writing on his campaign website, Cruz said: “I am grateful for Mike’s dedication to call a generation of young people to prayer and spiritual commitment. Heidi and I are grateful to have his prayers and support.
“With the support of Mike and many other people of faith, we will fight the good fight, finish the course, and keep the faith.”
Well, keep the faith until gays end the world, at least.
That’s what Bickle claimed would happen when the Supreme Court ruled on equal marriage, telling a crowd: “2,000 years ago, Paul said, ‘In the latter times, there’s going to be a falling away and one of the signals of it is you will find government’s forbidding marriage.’
“Beloved, we are on the cusp of that happening right now. This is alerting anybody paying attention that we’re in a time frame where things are escalating according to these lines.
“This is a unique signal of the End Times and the forbidding of marriage is an escalator of the darkness of the End Times as well.”
He also claimed schools will “promote… all the sexual options” because of gay equality, such as “the transgender, the boy with boy, the girl with girl, the threesomes, the fivesomes … the young boy with the old man, the paedophiles, all of this will end up being presented as normative, acceptable, healthy sexual patterns”.
It’s not just those things that Bickle has issues with, either – Senator Cruz has also questions faced from Jewish groups, because Bickle previously claimed that God “raised up” Adolf Hitler to hunt Jews for not believing in Jesus.
According to JoeMyGod, the National Jewish Democratic Council said today: “It is profoundly troubling that Sen. Ted Cruz proudly trumpeted the endorsement of such a controversial figure who holds such offensive views.
“We call on Sen. Cruz to clarify his position and explain why he chose to highlight someone who is notorious for having said that God sent Hitler to hunt Jews for not accepting Jesus as the messiah.”
As of publication, the Cruz endorsement post remains online.
