Gymnast Louis Smith lashes out at fans who keep claiming he’s gay
Gymnast Louis Smith has “named and shamed” a fan who claimed he’s gay – forcing her to delete her account after a torrent of abusive comments.
The Team GB athlete took home a silver medal on the pommel horse at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Though he is straight, the athlete is frequently in the gay media, and has posed for both Gay Times and Attitude Magazines in the past.
However, he spoke out today to shut down a fan on Instagram who commented on a picture: “Did no one else pick up on the fact Louis is gay?”
The Olympian responded by sharing the person’s username to his 143,000 fans, writing: “Thought it was time I finally name and shamed someone lol.”
He added: “Bored of peoples ignorance and bigoted and prejudice behaviour.
“no I’m not gay and it this comment doesn’t directly effect [sic] me but for the millions around the world fighting for equality.
“It’s people like this women dragging our society down…[username] Very sad to be honest. Anyway hope everyone is well.”
However, the person appears to have had so many angry messages from the Olympian’s fans that their account has now been deleted.
One Instagram user declared ‘victory’, writing: “The loser has deleted her account.”
The gymnast previously said that if he were gay, he would date actor Will Smith.
He told GT: “I got asked this the other day… I said Will Smith. Because he’s very dedicated to his family, he’s very loyal, funny, hard working and talented. So, in the most non-sexual way, it would have to be based on the person.”
