England coach Chris Ramsey to speak at LGBT coaches network launch
England coach Chris Ramsey is to speak at the launch of the LGBT Football Coaches Network.
The former QPR boss will take to the stage as guest speaker at the event, which will take place next weekend at St George’s Park.
The event is funded by the UEFA Captains of Change Programme, and is open, and fee for all aspiring managers, coaches, referees and players.
A decision to launch the Network was made after 78 percent of over 100 LGBT football coaches responded to a survey to say they had experienced negativity towards LGBT people.
In addition, nearly half of the respondents weren’t out at work.
Network Steering Group Chair James Earl explains: “We want to change that by providing positive role models for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender coaches, highlighting where there has been success and building a community. We also want to raise awareness of the fabulous contribution LGBT coaches are making to the national game.”
The Network will be open to coaches at all levels of experience, including allies.
Head of Grassroots Football Les Howie also commented: “We’re delighted to be hosting this important event. We consider St. George’s Park to be the home of coaching and, as such, open to those on the coaching journey from all levels and backgrounds.
“Along with the work we are doing in FA Education, this network of coaches is an important step in breaking down barriers in tackling homophobia and transphobia in football.”
