It seems not everybody was impressed with the singerā€™s touching tributeā€¦

Lady Gagaā€™s tribute to David Bowie at this yearā€™s Grammy Awards may have impressed audiences worldwide ā€“ but it looks like it didnā€™t go down too well with Duncan Jones.

The pop iconā€™s son sent out a cryptic ā€“ yet stinging ā€“ tweet following Gagaā€™s much-praised performance in honour of his father.

Jones wrote on Twitter: ā€œā€˜overexcited or irrational, typically as a result of infatuation or excessive enthusiasm; mentally confused.ā€™ Damn it! What IS that word!?ā€‹ā€

The word he was looking for, of course, was ā€˜gagaā€™ ā€“ giving the exact Oxford English Dictionary definition of the term.

Gaga performed ten of the iconā€™s hits from the 70s and early 80s ā€“ including Space Oddity, Changes, Fame, Letā€™s Dance and Heroes.

Gaga said paying tribute to Bowie was probably the most challenging thing sheā€™s done in career, as she credited the star with shaping her identity as an individual and a performer.

ā€œWhen I was 19 years old, I started to live my life like him. I began to consume art and fashion and art history and a combination of those things, performance technique,ā€ she said.

ā€œI only hung out with people that were artists and that was the way that he was and I learned that from him.ā€

ā€œWhat Iā€™m trying to say is thereā€™s people that love David Bowie, and then thereā€™s David Bowie fans, and thereā€™s Bowie kids, who live like him,ā€ she added.

ā€œI canā€™t express to you, I donā€™t know who Iā€™d be if I didnā€™t have (him as) a figure in my life.

ā€œI donā€™t know what my identity would be.ā€
