Trans model to walk 30 miles in nothing but heels and underwear
A Scottish transgender woman is to walk 30 miles in stilettos and underwear to raise awareness of the community and transphobia.
The winner of Miss Transgender UK, Jai Dara Latto, has said she hopes the journey will raise awareness of just how long it takes to transition.
“I chose the route and the distance to show the time and length that many trans people have to go through to become their true identity,” she told the Daily Record.
“And the high heels are to show the difficulties there are while going through this process – and the pain that many trans women get when they try and fit into a female stereotype.”
Leaving from her home in Walkerburn, Peebleshire, the 23-year-old make-up artist will walk to Edinburgh wearing a collection of lingerie and a pair of angel wings – imitating Victoria’s Secret models.
She said: “The Victoria’s Secret-style outfit is to show that trans people should be proud of their bodies no matter what stage of the transition they are on. We are all beautiful and should be seen as that.”
The walk is expected to take around 10 hours to complete and will take her through a number of ex-mining communities, including Bonnyrigg and Gorebridge.
Testing out dozens of different shoe styles at her local gym, Jai added that she was likely to use a high platform boot in order to support her ankles.
Since winning Miss Transgender UK, Jai has cut ties with the competition after becoming the centre of a row.
Being early in her transition, a number of contestants claimed she was not ready to receive such success.
This caused Jai to turn down a £10,000 surgery prize and focus on taking things at her own pace.
She plans to get full gender reassignment surgery in two years.
