Grindr documentary to feature at Cannes
A documentary about use of gay dating app, Grindr, in New Zealand is to feature at the Cannes Film Festival.
The prestigious event – that often screens work by some of the world’s greatest film makers – will show the eight minute feature created by students, Annabelle Dick and Kyan Krumdieck.
“We were trying to come up with a documentary idea and we started to compare our own dating lives,” said Ms Dick, who was the film’s producer.
“It was an insight into a world I knew nothing about.”
The 20-year-old added that the documentary was likely to shock some viewers, but they had tried to make it as “tasteful as possible”.
The documentary, which has already won best student film at the country’s Show Me short film competition, will feature in the short film corner at Cannes and will not compete for a prize.
Last month, Grindr announced that a Chinese gambling firm had purchased a controlling stake in the business for £64m.
