Teen jailed after brutal homophobic murder in which he ‘wrapped a snake’ around victim’s neck
A teen has been sentenced to just four years behind bars in Sweden after a homophobic murder – in which he wrapped a snake around his victim’s neck.
The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to four years in a juvenile detention facility after he was found guilty of killing the person in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The horrific attack saw the boy brutally beat the person to death in June last year – before wrapping a dead snake around their neck. Though some reports identify the victim as a ‘gay man’, others suggest they were presenting as female or cross-dressing.
The attacker, believed to be of Moroccan origin, was approached by the victim while sleeping rough, and offered clothes, food and a place to shower.
However, he turned on the helping hand once allowed inside the apartment, carrying out the horrific attack. In court, the boy claimed he killed the person in ‘self defence’ after they ‘tried to rape him’.
However, prosecutors cast doubts on this account of events – as it was uncovered the teen had filmed the murder while shouting homophobic slurs.
His DNA was also found under the victim’s fingernails and at the scene, according to The Local.
As well as serving four years in a detention facility, the teen was ordered to pay damages to the victim’s family.
