Wildly popular British TV series SuperTed is winging its way back to our screens, but will be without a ā€œflamboyant gayā€ sidekick.

New episodes of the originally Welsh series will be on UK TV screens in 2016, but its creator Mike Young has said some of the characters may need a revamp.

Speaking in 2014, he said: ā€œPopeye used to smash people in the face. And it was very funny.

He continued: ā€œIn SuperTed, we had a gun-slinging cowboy, a flamboyantly gay skeleton and a fat guy who had jokes made about his weight.

ā€œAnd all these things you just wouldnā€™t do today.

ā€œBut you can still write the show in a funny, entertaining way.ā€

The show, which featured a rejected teddy, who got turned into a flying, crime-fighting super bear, was originally developed for S4C, but later was translated from Welsh into English and went to the BBC.
