Gay man violently attacked twice in one night
A gay Irish man has spoken of being subjected to two violent homophobic attacks in one night in Australia.
Dylan Souster, 22, from Laragh, Ireland, says the attacks were both homophobic.
He said a gang of seven people assaulted him, then later a man who looked set to help him out also attacked him.
The victim has multiple facial fractures, dislodged teeth, palate damage and bleeding in the ears.
He was hospitalised following the attack, and remains in pain.
After getting out of the taxi near his apartment in Sydney, Australia in the early hours of last Sunday, he says he was attacked by six men.
The attackers only stopped, he says, when a woman in their party shouted at them to stop.
Then, when attempting to get back home, Souster says a stranger stopped and asked him what had happened.
He said that the man walked him home and offered to call his girlfriend to tell her what had happened.
When he replied that he has a boyfriend, the man said to Souster: “Oh, you have a boyfriend. You’re a queer, you’re a faggot.”
Then, the man punched him in the face several times.
Darren Hedderman, Souster’s boyfriend’ told the Sydney Morning Herald that the attacker was a “Good Samaritan-turned-bad.”
