Hillary Clinton wins big on Super Tuesday
Democrat Hillary Clinton has won the most states on the biggest day of the race for the US presidential nominations.
Although the count is still ongoing, it is safe to say that Hillary Clinton is a few steps closer to The White House following yesterday’s primaries.
Mrs Clinton, former secretary of state entered Super Tuesday as favourite to win the vast majority of states for her party.
As Super Tuesday drew to a close, Mrs Clinton walked away with 1,001 of the 2,383 required delegates needed to secure her nomination, whereas Sanders claimed 371.
Clinton hailed her victories in Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Massachusetts.
Sanders won four, including his home state of Vermont, as well as Colorado, Minnesota and Oklahoma.
“What a Super Tuesday!” the Democratic frontrunner yelled to supporters gathered in Florida – which holds its contest on March 15.
The former First Lady used her victory speech as an opportunity to attack Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, as she looked beyond the primary stages.
“Most of our supporters aren’t millionaires or billionaires,” she said.
“They’re just people who share our belief that love and kindness can trump hatred and bigotry. The stakes in this election couldn’t be higher.
“There is still a long way to go before we have the delegates necessary to win the Democratic nomination, but if we’re in this fight together, we will win.”
Clinton went on to thank her backers after a rocky beginning in Iowa and New Hampshire, telling them their “passion and commitment are paying off.”
Sanders, however, vowed to press on – joining Clinton in her attack on Trump by saying he wants to bring Americans together.
The self described socialist said his “revolution” is about “bringing our people together, black and white, Latino, Asian-American, gay and straight, people born in America, people who have immigrated to America.
“When we bring our people together, when we do not allow the Donald Trumps of the world to divide us up – and when we have the courage to stand up to the billionaire class and tell them they can’t have it all.”
