Star Wars protagonist Luke Skywalker could be gay, according to Mark Hamill.

Earlier this week, The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams said he is keen to to see a gay character in the award-winning franchise.

Now, actor Mark Hamill has revealed the Jedi hero can have any sexuality fans want.
‘Of course Luke Skywalker is gay’, says Mark Hamill
ā€œI just read online that JJ is very much open to that. In the old days you would get fan mail,ā€ he said.

ā€œBut now fans are writing and ask all these questions, ā€˜Iā€™m bullied in schoolā€¦ Iā€™m afraid to come outā€™.

ā€œThey say to me, ā€˜Could Luke be gay?ā€™ Iā€™d say it is meant to be interpreted by the viewer,ā€ he added.

ā€œIf you think Luke is gay, of course he is. You should not be ashamed of it. Judge Luke by his character, not by who he loves.ā€

Many fans have been wondering when an openly gay character will appear in the galaxy far, far away ā€“ and Abrams thinks its definitely going to happen, ā€œvery soonā€.

ā€œOf course!ā€ he told The Daily Beast.

ā€œWhen I talk about inclusivity itā€™s not excluding gay characters. Itā€™s about inclusivity. So of course.ā€

Although Abrams gave no specific details regarding which characters may or may not be LGBT, many fans already have their suspicions ā€“ and its not Luke Skywalker.

Last yearā€™s Star Wars: The Force Awakens featured a close bond between Resistance pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega) ā€“ with rumours spreading that Disney is setting up a gay romance between two of the filmā€™s main characters.

Isaac added fuel to the fire by hinting at an undisclosed romance of some kind, adding: ā€œI think itā€™s very subtle romance thatā€™s happening. You know, you have to just look very close ā€” you have to watch it a few times to see the little hints. But there was.ā€

Boyega initially shut down reports, but hinted recently that thereā€™s still life in the idea yet.
