Sadiq Khan’s aide resigns following ‘faggot’ and ‘hoe’ tweets
A video of London mayoral candidate’s aide has emerged after he was suspended for offensive tweets about LGBT people.
Labour London mayoral candidate Sadiq Khan’s aide has resigned following tweets in which he used the words “faggots” and “hoes”.
Shueb Salar handed in his resignation after pictures of him brandishing a gun and claiming he could be a hired “hitman” emerged.
Salar also posted a video of himself with a rifle, as he bragged about “shooting stuff with real guns, knives, crossbows and bow and arrows”.
He added joke hashtags “#I’mASecretHitman”, “#ShoutMeIfYouWantMeToTakeCareOfSomeone” and “#I’llMakeItLookLikeAnAccident”.
Salar’s resignation comes after he was suspended from his post as Khan’s parliamentary assistant, following reports he had posted homophobic and sexist tweets.
One tweet from May 2012 read: “Currently hating on all you faggots who have finished uni.”
It ended: “Lucky c**ts”.
A second, from June 2012, said: “F*ck all you hoes”, and another from April 2012 gave advice on how to “treat a lady”, saying to “buy her a nice iron and extend the kitchen for her”.
Salar began working for Khan in November 2014.
A spokesman for Mr Khan said: “Sadiq acted immediately to suspend Shueb Salar as soon as he was made aware of these serious issues over the weekend.
“Shueb Salar has now resigned from his role as a junior member of Sadiq’s parliamentary staff.”
Khan is currently the Labour MP for Tooting, and has unwaveringly voted for LGBT equality in Parliament since he was first elected in 2005 – making him one of the first Muslim lawmakers to do so.
During an exclusive interview with PinkNews last year, he promised a zero tolerance policy with regards to hate crime in the capital, adding that the city should be ashamed of its track record on the issue.
Last week in a radio interview, he responded to a string of attacks attempting to link him to Muslim extremists – by citing his record on LGBT equality.
