Donald Trump is now refusing to talk about same-sex marriage
Donald Trump has refused to clarify his stance on same-sex marriage – claiming that everyone already knows what his policy is.
Mr Trump has rallied against equality in recent weeks, telling old Fox News he would “strongly consider” a plot to overturn same-sex marriage, and telling evangelical leaders they can “trust” him to protect “traditional marriage”.
However, he has tied himself in a knot by simultaneously telling a lesbian journalist that he would “move forward on LGBT rights” – and when challenged attempted to maintain both viewpoints simultaneously.
The billionaire reality TV star-turned-Republican politician has this week tried a new strategy: he just won’t talk about it at all.
When reporter David Martosko asked him to clarify at a Q&A session, Mr Trump claimed he had made his position clear “150 times”.
Martosko said: “You’ve been kind of all over the map on [same-sex marriage], especially regarding your position on whether Supreme Court justices you might appoint should work to overturn the recent decision.
“Can you state unequivocally what is your position on gay marriages, and same-sex unions in general?”
However, Mr Trump said: “We have policy on it. And I’ve said it very, very strongly. And I think you know it.
“And it’s all done and, you know, in a campaign how many times do I have to say it?”
When asked to specify the policy which he has apparently stated very strongly, Mr Trump replied: “It’s like, David, it’s like as an example, what is my position on 900 different things.
“I’ve said it 150 times. We’re not here for discussing that. But everybody knows how I feel on it.”
When the reporter insisted they don’t actually know his position is, Mr Trump responded: “David, sit down please. You know my position.”
So that’s as clear as mud, then.

In a bid to court right-wingers, he has also assured lobbyists he would not block a Kim Davis-style ‘religious freedom’ law to permit discrimination against gay couples.
