Out Fox News contributor thinks gays should be more tolerant of discrimination
An out gay Fox News contributor has said he thinks gay people should be more tolerant of those who discriminate against them.
Guy Benson, a contributor to Fox News, made the comments while speaking at the 2016 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
He described gay rights activists as “hounding heretics ruthlessly from their midst to the point that if you’re a Democrat, if you’re a liberal and you might hold traditional views on marriage, you probably don’t want to talk about it very much for fear of the wrath and judgment of your fellow so-called open-minded leftists.”
Going on, he said he thought people should not be expected to universally celebrate the Supreme Court ruling in favour of equal marriage.
He said he didn’t agree with a “mandatory celebration” of equal marriage, saying he thought businesses should be able to reject gay couples for their weddings.
Benson’s co-panellist Mollie Hemingway said gay rights activists “didn’t try to call [her] names”, but that they “just tried to reason” with her.
She went on: “What we’re seeing more is a crushing of dissent at a tiny, local level.”
Of ‘COEXIST’ bumper stickers, which display a number of religious and gender symbols, and have been around for several years, Benson said they are “a little morality billboard on your fender to demonstrate what a wonderfully good person you are for fellow motorists. [However] what coexistence really looks like in America today is disagreeing with someone on marriage and not trying to sue their business out of existence because they disagree.”
Benson spoke at CPAC alongside avowed homophobes Rick Santorum, Phil Robertson and Jeb Bush.
